הפונקציה הבסיסית של CelsiLabel ® תלויה בנקודת התכה (פעולה פיזית מוגדרת) של התרכובת הכימית, ולא על תגובה בין מרכיבים כימיים על מנת לתרגם את רמות הטמפרטורה לצורה גלוייה.

ישנם אינדיקטורים לרישום טמפרטורה אשר האינדיקציה שלהם מבוססים על תגובות כימיות של החומרים בשימוש. תגובות כימיות התלויות בטמפרטורה ובזמן החשיפה.
